Plastic is a synthetic or semi-synthetic polymer material, typically derived from petrochemicals. Its defining characteristic is moldability; when heated, it becomes pliable and can be shaped into solid objects of nearly any form through processes like injection molding, extrusion, or blow molding. Key properties include being lightweight, durable, corrosion-resistant, and electrically insulating. Plastics are categorized broadly into thermoplastics (which can be re-melted, like PET and polyethylene) and thermosets (which set permanently, like epoxy). They form the physical substrate for countless products, from packaging and automotive parts to electronics and consumer goods.

Paint, in contrast, is a liquid coating applied to surfaces like plastic, metal, wood, or walls. It is a complex mixture consisting of four main components: pigments (for color and opacity), binders or resins (which form the adhesive, durable film), solvents (to adjust viscosity for application), and additives (for specific properties like UV resistance or drying). Its primary functions are protection—shielding the substrate from corrosion, weathering, and wear—and decoration—providing color, texture, and aesthetic finish.
